How to Invest $1,000 to Turn It Into $100,000 Quickly
I'm Tyler, a former financial advisor and portfolio manager. Now I create financial content for free, so you don't have to pay for it.
1. Invest in an S&P 500 Fund
I’d invest $500 in an S&P 500 fund like VOO, SPY, or FXAIX. This means I now own the world’s most profitable companies like Apple, Microsoft, and Nvidia.
2. Invest in a Growth Fund
Next, I’d invest $300 into a growth fund like Vanguard's VUG or Fidelity's FDGRX. This allows me to tilt my portfolio towards tech-heavy companies like Broadcom, Cisco, and AMD.
3. Invest in Individual Stocks
Finally, I’d invest the remaining $200 in individual stocks. I wouldn't worry about the price of those shares because I can buy fractional shares. This is more risky, but if I really want to focus on speed, I'm not going to get there that quickly with index funds.
4. Strategy Overview
This strategy provides me with an 80% core of broad-based index funds, so the odds of going to zero are just about zero. It also offers a 20% satellite for the opportunity to pick a few individual winners, so I can brag to my friends at Thanksgiving that I saw it coming all along.
